Ten Simple Pleasures

Simple Pleasures. We all have them, we all enjoy them, some we share, some are ours alone. But we experience them every day, and we almost always take them for granted. Little things, like finally working a splinter out of your finger, crawling into a warm bed after a grinding night shift, the smell of baking bread, the satisfaction of knowing you passed your driving test with flying colours. Simple Pleasures are all around you; if you only look out for them!

1. Someone you love calling your name. Is there really a sweeter sound on earth?

2. Realizing there is still one piece of pie left over in the fridge. First, it was nonexistent, now it mystically appears... but not for long.

3. Fresh sheets on the bed.

4. Surprise flowers. When your husband brings home a bouquet of flowers for no reason at all. Just because he was thinking about you.

5. The smell of warm dog. They've been sleeping for almost two hours, they turn over on their side and all their scruffy fluff pokes up into the air every which way. Their pink belly rises and falls with each puff of air that comes out of their nose. How can you resist stuffing your face in their fuzz and taking a deep breath of the smell of warm dog?

6. The new shoots poking out of the earth in spring. A sign of life and hope so small but so triumphant and strong.

7. The smell of the bookstore. It doesn't matter which one you go to, they always smell the same. And there is some kind of comfort in that.

8. The last day of school feeling. Goodbye school. Endless summer awaits.

9. Pulling out of your driveway at the beginning of a long trip. Anticipation, excitement, adventure. Anything can happen!

10. Getting everything back in the box just like you found it. CEOs must have the horse laugh on us when they think about us trying to get the tent and poles back into the itty, bitty box it came in. Or how about that croquet set you got for your birthday? Or that toolset you actually wanted to return but couldn't because you couldn't manage to get it back in the box. But when you can fit it all back into the box... now that is a true accomplishment!

Happy Monday :)
